Feature Details:
Below are expanded descriptions of features that are included with the S4 TII Stage 2 Rtek7 ECU Upgrade.
Fuel Correction Map:
The Stage 2 Rtek7 gives the user the ability to modify both fuel and timing without tricking the ECU in any way like using external hardware does. The fuel and timing changes are done within the factory ECU maintaining the drivability of the factory ECU while adding the flexibility of a stand-alone without having to rewire the whole car.
Fuel adjustments can be made using the fuel correction map. The map is arranged as an RPM vs. Boost table with each cell being a correction factor the user can specify. Every engine cycle, the ECU calculates the fuel required then, based on the current boost and RPM, looks up the user-set correction factor in the fuel correction map. This correction is applied to the result of the fuel calculation. The S4T2 Fuel Correction Map is 14x14 with an adjustment range of +/- 37%
Timing Maps:
The Stage 2 Rtek7 gives the user the ability to modify both fuel and timing without tricking the ECU in any way like using external hardware does. The fuel and timing changes are done within the factory ECU maintaining the drivability of the factory ECU while adding the flexibility of a stand-alone without having to rewire the whole car.
Timing adjustments are made to the actual timing maps. In the PocketLOGGER Software, there are two timing maps, one for leading and one for trailing. Each map is arranged as a Load versus RPM table with each cell being the actual timing value in degrees. Every engine cycle, the ECU uses the current load and RPM to lookup the timing value in the map. The user can directly change these values.
Injector Size Presets:
The Stage 2 Rtek ECU Upgrade allows the user to select preset injector sizes for both primary and secondary injectors. This makes the ECU aware of the larger injectors so it compensates for them without the user having to lean out the mixture manually. Injectors larger than the presets can be run without a problem, but the ECU will not completely compensate for the higher flowing injectors requiring the user to do so manually using the fuel correction table. The S4NA injector presets are (Pri/Sec, cc) 550/550, 550/720, and 720/720.
Secondary Transition Stumble Elimination:
Under certain conditions, the stock ECU can cause an engine stumble right at the secondary transition point (around 3500-3800 RPM) when the manifold pressure is at zero PSI. We have changed the code in the ECU to eliminate this problem.
Cranking Fuel Map Adjustment:
This feature allows you to adjust the map the ECU uses to decide how much fuel to inject during engine cranking. The ability to adjust this will greatly reduce the tendency to flood.
MAP Based Timing mode:
The user can turn this feature on to convert the timing tables to PSI vs RPM which provides better control over timing above 10 PSI as compared to the stock Load vs RPM. This mode is NOT for beginners. It requires complete manual remapping of the timing tables as the stock tables are no longer valid. The ECU is shipped with MAP Based Timimg mode turned off, so the ECU uses the stock timing maps (Load vs RPM) which can be edited by the user.
FCD:
The stock ECU will cut fuel to the rear rotor when boost hits the fuel cut threshold of about 8.6 psi. Although this was put into the stock ECU as a protection mechanism, it's a quite harsh mechanism and not required for mild improvements in boost.
Up until now, a Fuel Cut Defensers (FCDs) have been external devices wired into the engine harness that interrupt the signal from the boost sensor to the ECU. The Rtek7 goes goes right to the source by removing the code responsible for Fuel Cut from the ECU altogether. This has the additional benefits in that it doesn't alter the boost signal to the in-dash gauge, there are no wires to splice, and no additional box to clutter the engine bay.
CAUTION: Running too much boost without enough fuel can destroy an engine. Even though the FCD is built into the ECU, it is the customer's responsibility to address fuel requirements separately.
SCCA ITS Legal:
The ITS Mod allows users who race in classes that require an unmodified stock ECU chassis to use the Rtek7 ECU Upgrade. Normally, the data cable is installed and runs out the side of the ECU. This would not be legal in certain racing classes. The ITS mod hides the data connector under the top cover. Once the cover is on, the ECU is legal for those classes. If you want to datalog or tune, simply remove the top cover and plug the data cable into the hidden connector.
AWS:
When you first start your RX7, the ECU will rev the engine to approximately 3000 RPM's - this is the Accelerated Warmup System (AWS) in action. The purpose of the AWS is to warm up the precat. Of course, one of the worst things you can do to a cold engine is high revs. This mod removes the AWS code from the ECU allowing your car to idle normally when cold.
In-Car Idle Setup:
The Initial Set Coupler and Variable Resistor fuctions have been moved into the software. Instead of going under the hood to adjust idle fuel, you can adjust it right from the drivers seat.
Flood Clear:
The Rtek7 Upgrade eliminates the need to pop the hood to pull a fuse when the engine is flooded. Simply press the accellerator to the floor and crank. The ECU will now stop fuel delivery for as long as you keep your foot on the floor.
Adjustable secondary staging rpm:
Normally the secondary injectors start adding fuel at 3800 RPM. The problem is that the secondary injectors will not come on below this rpm regardless of the boost being run. This can lead to cars running lean below 3800rpm even if they have larger injectors, fuel pump etc. The Rtek7 Stage 2 ECU Upgrade allows the user to adjust the secondary staging RPM to any RPM between 2400 and 3800 to best suit your setup.
Increase primary injector duty cycle cap by ~5%:
Raising the cap allows a little bit more out of the primary injectors. This works in conjunction with the lower Secondary Injection RPM to smooth out air/fuel ratio and get rid of the lean spot.
Datalogging Port:
One of the major features of the Rtek7 Stage 2 ECU Upgrade is the addition of a serial data port. This port is used in conjunction with the Datalogging/Tuning software to make adjustments to the ECU as well as retrieve data from just about any sensor on the car at speed of 120 samples per second or more.
Palm PDA Based Programming and Datalogging Software:
To make changes to the Rtek7 Stage 2 ECU as well as capture sensor data, a Palm OS PDA is connected to the datalogging port on the ECU. Based off the mature and stable PocketLOGGER datalogging engine used in our other products, the Rtek7 PocketLOGGER software provides a easy and convenient way to make changes to the Rtek7 Stage 2 ECU without having to carry around an expensive laptop. Check out the screenshots on the software page.
Diagnostic Check Codes and I/O Viewer:
With the Rtek7 Stage 2 ECU, in conjunction with the PocketLOGGER software, you can view current error codes in plain english as well as current status of all the digital inputs and outputs of the ECU, in real-time.
EGR Output as RPM Controlled Switch:
The EGR output has been converted to use as a general use RPM controlled switch. The active low output can be configured in the software to activate at any RPM.
VarRes Input as External General Purpose Loggable Analog Input:
Utilizing an input on the stock ECU, we have converted it to a general purpose analog input. This works excellent in conjunction with any sensor with a 0-5v output, such as a Wideband O2 Sensor. The input is fully loggable which makes it a valuable tool for tuning.
ATP Input as External General Purpose Loggable Analog Input:
